Best Way to Remove Thread From A Sewing Machine

sewing machine thread kneedle quilt stuffWhen you are changing thread on your machine do you just pull off the spool or cone and draw the thread up from the needle?

That is how I always did it until I found out that this is not good for the sewing machine. The tension area is designed for the thread to go one direction, toward the needle. When you pull the thread out the other direction, away from the needle, you are putting strain on this area of the sewing machine. This could cause tension problems with your sewing machine over time. The best way to take out the thread is to cut it at the spool or cone and then pull out the thread from just above your needle. It has taken me a while to change to this new technique as old habits are hard to break.
